Research by Professor Yuval Shaked of the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology presents new ways to curb the development anti-cancer therapy resistance, a phenomenon that is detrimental to the efficacy of existing cancer treatments.
"For the first time researchers have discovered a link between overweight and obese mothers in sub-Saharan Africa and infant mortality," Jennifer James, founder of Mom Bloggers for Social Good, writes in this post in the Bill & Melinda Gate's "Impatient Optimists" blog.
Low-risk patients who require certain cancer surgeries can have the procedures performed with low operative mortality rates at community hospitals, according to a new study.
Angiogenesis, the development of new blood vessels, is required during embryonic development and wound healing, as well as during disease processes such as tumor growth. The signals that direct angiogensis are incompletely understood, but could represent novel targets for the development of therapies that promote or inhibit this process.
A vaccine against the mosquito-borne infection dengue, the first to reach the final stage of clinical testing, "has seen 'very promising' results in Thailand, a specialist involved in the tests said on Friday," Reuters reports.
