The deadly Nipah virus, which is carried by bats and occasionally infects people, is more likely to be transmitted from person to person when the infected patient is older, male and/or has breathing difficulties, according to a study co-led by scientists at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
"In one of the most significant victories for public health policy, the Australian High Court upheld the Tobacco Plain Packaging Act, which effectively removes the last form of advertising available to the tobacco industry in the country - logos on cigarette packs," Cynthia Lewis, a senior program officer for the tobacco initiative at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, writes in the foundation's "Impatient Optimists" blog.
Amedra Pharmaceuticals LLC has announced re-launch of Adrenaclick®, a single-dose epinephrine auto-injector, for the emergency treatment of life threatening allergic reactions in people who are at risk for or have a history of anaphylaxis. Adrenaclick® will be available as a two-pack carton in both 0.15 mg and 0.30 mg strengths.
