Classic psychedelics, such as LSD, psilocybin mushrooms and mescaline, previously have been shown to occasion lasting improvements in mental health. But researchers led by University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Public Health investigators wanted to advance the existing research and determine whether classic psychedelics might be protective with regard to suicidal thoughts.

Medicare Part B premiums up $5 per month next year

The increase will eat about a quarter of a typical retiree's cost-of-living raise in Social Security payments.

Low-dose estrogen therapy significantly reduced the progression of fatty buildup in the arteries leading to the heart

"We've shown that you can get the same reduction in coronary artery atherosclerosis with standard-dose or low-dose estrogen," said Thomas B. Clarkson, D.V.M., one of the investigators. "It is very significant."

Poll: Most Americans think justices' personal ideology will affect high court's health law decision

According to a Kaiser Family Foundation January tracking poll, a majority of Americans believe the Supreme Court's health law ruling will result from the justices' own ideology rather than legal analysis. The poll also found that the public believes the uninsured will benefit most from the overhaul.
