Cedars-Sinai's Orthopaedic Center is one of only 60 hospitals nationwide to be named as one of the "Hospitals with Great Orthopaedic Programs," a distinction awarded by Becker's Hospital Review, a national magazine focused on healthcare services and management.
The levels of the environmental pollutant perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) that mothers had in their blood during pregnancy increased the risk of obesity in their daughters at 20 years of age.
A study published in the December issue of The Journal of Nuclear Medicine identified positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) scans as a potentially useful tool for predicting local recurrence in lung cancer patients treated with radiofrequency ablation (RFA). RFA, which uses localized thermal energy to kill cancer cells, is increasingly used as an alternative treatment for patients unable to undergo surgery or other therapies to treat lung cancer.
A drop of blood on filter paper, allowed to dry and stored for future diagnostic purposes - considerably easier than the present-day, resource-consuming method using frozen blood samples in plastic tubes.
