The HER Foundation proudly presented a check for more than $46 thousand to Dr. Marlena Fejzo, geneticist, of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA on Friday, September 14th.
Quebec patients with serious blood cancers (intermediate-2 and high-risk myelodysplastic syndrome and acute myeloid leukemia) now have publicly funded access to a new innovative therapy, VIDAZA® (azacitidine). Following a priority review and subsequent positive recommendation from the Conseil du medicament, patients now have the potential to significantly extend survival.
Removing a vestibular schwannoma -; a slow-growing, benign tumor that develops in the nerves connecting the inner ear to the brain -; is a delicate procedure. Surgeons must differentiate the tumor from nearby nerves, arteries, and other intracranial structures.
SDI, a leading healthcare market insight and analytics firm, today reported that the number of hospital outpatient surgical visits increased 4.5% in 2009 compared with 2008. The number of hospital inpatient visits with surgical procedures, however, remained relatively unchanged in 2009.
A latest speculation suggests that nearly a third of employers are likely to stop offering health insurance to employees in 2014 when major federal healthcare-reform provisions kick in. This comes from a new report by McKinsey Quarterly.
