The University of Massachusetts Medical School, the Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services and the Massachusetts Connector Authority have received a $35.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to develop an online "health care exchange," a resource through which consumers and small business owners can efficiently shop for health insurance plans.
We all have at one time or another experienced the typical signs of an infection: the fever, the listlessness, the lack of appetite. They are orchestrated by the brain in response to circulating cytokines, the signaling molecules of the immune system. But just how cytokines' reach extends beyond the almost impenetrable blood-brain barrier has been the topic of much dispute.
"An initiative announced [Thursday] in London by the Group of Eight (G8) industrialized countries to ramp up the fight against rape and other sexual violence in conflict represents 'a beacon of light and hope' for the countless survivors around the world," the U.N. Secretary General's Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict Zainab Hawa Bangura said at the launch of the Declaration on Preventing Sexual Violence, the U.N. News Centre reports (4/11).
