In modern culture, it is not considered socially acceptable for married people to have extramarital sexual partners. However, in some Amazonian cultures, extramarital sexual affairs were common, and people believed that when a woman became pregnant, each of her sexual partners would be considered part-biological father. Now, a new University of Missouri study published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences has found that up to 70 percent of Amazonian cultures may have believed in the principle of multiple paternity.
Two daily fasting diets, also known as time-restricted feeding diets, are effective for weight loss, according to a new study published by researchers from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
"The newly appointed temporary General Manager Gabriel Jaramillo and his team has moved forward to 'transform' the Global Fund [to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria] with considerable speed and deftness, restoring confidence among bilateral donors such as Japan and several others and country recipients as well as improving morale among the Fund's staff," Victoria Fan, a research fellow at the Center for Global Development (CGD), writes in CGD's "Global Health Policy" blog.
The combination of tenofovir disoproxil fumarate and entecavir induces a high rate of viral suppression in patients with chronic hepatitis B virus infection who have failed multiple nucleos(t)ide analogue regimens, phase IIIb results indicate.
VirtualScopics, Inc., a provider of quantitative imaging for clinical trials, today announced revenues for the third quarter ended September 30, 2010 exceeded $3.5 million, representing a greater than 25% increase over the comparable period in 2009 and a greater than 9% growth over the preceding quarter ended June 30, 2010. Year-to-date revenues increased over 30% for the period ended September 30, 2010 compared to the same period in 2009.
