A child's cognitive development is not generally impacted by how much weight his or her mother gained during pregnancy, according to a study from Nationwide Children's Hospital. This is the first study to use methods controlling for the widest range of confounding factors when directly examining the association between gestational weight gain and childhood cognition.
Cancer immunotherapy is a form of treatment in which the body's own immune cells are recruited to overcome the tumor. However, it is only useful in a few tumors, because of tumor immunity where tumor-associated immune cells work to protect the tumor against attack.
Gene is associated with increased risk of precursor of macular degeneration A variant in a gene called Complement Factor H (CFH) appears to contribute to the increased risk of advanced age-related macular degeneration (AMD) largely or entirely through its impact on the development of a precursor of advanced AMD called soft drusen (small yellowish, extracellular deposits of lipid, protein and cellular debris in the back of the eye), according to a multinational team of researchers.
DUSA Pharmaceuticals, Inc. reported today that on the afternoon of August 5, 2010 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration notified DUSA that it has not granted Orphan Drug Designation for the use of Levulan (aminolevulinic acid HCl) Photodynamic Therapy for the prevention of cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas in patients who have a proven history of multiple localized cutaneous SCCs over a 12 month period.
