UT Southwestern researchers have identified a major mechanism by which obesity causes type 2 diabetes, which is a common complication of being overweight that afflicts more than 30 million Americans and over 400 million people worldwide.
The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) recently approved and released an evidence-based clinical practice guideline on the diagnosis of periprosthetic joint infections of the hip and knee. Clinical practice guidelines are one avenue the Academy uses to ensure that patients receive high quality care.
Cardiologists at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have developed a noninvasive imaging technique that may help determine whether children who have had heart transplants are showing early signs of rejection. The technique could reduce the need for these patients to undergo invasive imaging tests every one to two years.
Chelsea Therapeutics International, Ltd. announced it has completed a pre-NDA assessment with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and intends to accelerate its new drug application (NDA) for NORTHERA™(droxidopa) for the treatment of symptomatic, neurogenic orthostatic hypotension (NOH), a chronic and potentially debilitating drop in blood pressure upon standing commonly associated Parkinson's disease, multiple system atrophy and pure autonomic failure.
