According to a new report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention this week, nearly 2.3 million sexually transmitted diseases (STD) cases were diagnosed in the country in 2017. This is by far the highest the country has ever faced, says the agency. The numbers were 200,000 in 2016 they add.

Medi-Cal is California's Medicaid program.
The study looked at nine measures of quality care that are equally appropriate for women and men, including pneumonia and influenza vaccinations; colorectal cancer screenings; and eye examinations for diabetics, to determine what percentage of VA patients received appropriate care for their gender.

While it does not often cause death, the symptoms can be severe and disabling, with no treatment available.
In a new report published today, ''Susceptibility of Plasmodium Falciparum to Antimalarial Drugs,'' the World Health Organization (WHO) warns that as more and more people gain access to these life-saving malaria medicines, which combine a drug derived from the plant Artemisia annua with a second, synthetic drug, it is vital that countries closely monitor their effectiveness.
