One day it may be possible to mimic the tactics used by parasites to trick the body into accepting transplanted tissues or organs.
African Americans receive poorer dental care than white Americans, even when they have some dental insurance coverage. To better understand why this is so, researchers at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health and the College of Dental Medicine, surveyed African American adults with recent oral health symptoms, including toothaches and gum disease.
Despite a low likelihood of positive results, children who develop fever in the first two days after surgery are often subjected to non-targeted, costly and invasive testing. This is according to a study that was recently published in the Journal of Pediatric Surgery.
A group of researchers re-evaluated their previously proposed hypothesis, which stated that the TLR4 activated by the spike glycoprotein S1 domain increases ACE2 expression and, thereby, aids in COVID-19 infection.
A new study published on the preprint server bioRxiv analyzes viral spike protein sequences from the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) outbreak in West Bengal, India, comparing them with sequences from other Indian states and Wuhan, China.
