New evidence is helping explain additional health benefits of aspirin. Researchers in Canada, Scotland and Australia have discovered that salicylate, the active ingredient in aspirin, directly increases the activity of the protein AMPK (AMP-activated protein kinase), a key player in regulating cell growth and metabolism. AMPK which is considered a cellular fuel-gauge is switched on by exercise and the commonly used anti-diabetic medication metformin.
NMMI publishes original research papers, reviews, case reports, editorials and letters to the editor on nuclear medicine and a wide range of related sciences. These include radiochemistry, radiopharmacy, dosimetry and pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics of radiopharmaceuticals, nuclear and molecular imaging analysis, nuclear and molecular imaging instrumentation, radiation biology and radionuclide therapy. June-Key Chung, MD, PhD, from the Seoul National University College of Medicine will serve as editor-in-chief. He will be supported by an international editorial board.
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) today announced its selection of Claudia Stravato, board member and retired executive director of the Texas Panhandle Family Planning and Health Centers in Amarillo, Texas, to receive a Community Health Leaders Award.
