A new discovery about the immune system may allow doctors to treat harmful inflammation that damages the brain in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's. It might also let doctors save patients from the potentially deadly inflammation of sepsis, a full-body infection that kills a quarter-million Americans every year.
Premier Purchasing Partners, LP, today announced new agreements for bandages, dressings and gauze have been awarded to AMD-Ritmed Inc. of Tonawanda, N.Y. a small business enterprise; Medi-Tech International Corp. of Brooklyn, N.Y., a small and women business enterprise; Tetra Medical Supply Corp. of Niles, Ill., a women business enterprise; Tyco Healthcare Group, LP of Mansfield, Mass.; and Tytex, Inc. of Lincoln, R.I.
Researchers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham have identified a chemical pathway that may be associated with seizures and shorter patient survival in some patients with malignant glioma, the most common and deadly form of brain tumor. In findings published May 27 in Science Translational Medicine, the researchers suggest that a transporter known as SXC is responsible for boosting levels of glutamate in the brains of some glioma patients.
The real scale of the AIDS epidemic in China is obscured by poor monitoring and official obstruction say China's top AIDS official who says a confirmed rise of 50% in cases is an underestimation.
It is known that various species of land and water-based living creatures are capable of hearing some lower and higher frequencies than humans are capable of detecting.
