The majority of liver patients who die on, or are removed from, the transplant wait-list have declined an offer of transplant, show the findings of an American study.
Scientists from the Florida campus of The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) have identified small variations in a number of genes that are closely linked to an increased risk of bipolar disorder, a mental illness that affects nearly six million Americans, according to the National Institute of Mental Health.
While some targeted therapies - drugs developed to attack specific molecules in the critical chemical pathways occurring within cancer cells - work well by themselves, increasingly researchers are finding that they work better when teamed with other targeted and conventional therapies.
The House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee held a hearing yesterday to begin the process of marking up legislation to remove certain parts of health law funding.
In ongoing support of prostate cancer research, Sanford Siegel, M.D., President and CEO of Chesapeake Urology Associates, presented the Urology Care Foundation with a check for $114,248 in support of its prostate cancer research efforts.
