About 1 in 88 children has an autism spectrum disorder. Researchers at the University of Minnesota have created a new lab-grown blood vessel replacement that is composed completely of biological materials, but surprisingly doesn't contain any living cells at implantation. The vessel, that could be used as an "off the shelf" graft for kidney dialysis patients, performed well in a recent study with nonhuman primates.
When a pregnancy ends tragically due to fatal abnormalities of the fetus, it is important to understand the medical reasons behind the event. This evaluation can help predict the risk of reoccurrence in future pregnancies. In the case of fetal akinesia deformation sequence (FADS), the fetus may have been affected by a disrupting injury or unavoidable maldevelopment.
