Patients with dementia who had signs and risk factors of a pulmonary embolism, or a blood clot in the lungs, were much less likely to be tested for pulmonary embolism than patients without dementia who had the same signs and risk factors.
In a post in the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's "Impatient Optimists" blog, Elisa Baldini, an advocacy and campaigns officer with Plan E.U., examines the future of European Union aid, writing, "Last week, European Union leaders came together for a decisive summit to discuss how much they think the E.U. should spend from 2014-2020, and what they should spend the budget on."
Appendicitis is the most common childhood surgical emergency, but the diagnosis can be challenging, especially in children, often leading to either unnecessary surgery in children without appendicitis, or a ruptured appendix and serious complications when the condition is missed.
Fox Chase Cancer Center scientists have identified how an enzyme called COX-2 may promote the development of ovarian tumors, adding further insight into the mechanism of COX-2 inhibitors and the prevention of this highly lethal disease. The data was presented today at the 95th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research in Orlando, Fla.
