Using advanced methodologies that pit drug compounds against specific types of malaria parasite cells, an international team of scientists, including researchers at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine and the Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation, have identified a potential new weapon and approach for attacking the parasites that cause malaria.
A new study led by researchers at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, in collaboration with researchers at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and the Aalborg University and Institute of Cancer Epidemiology in Denmark, found that consuming moderate amounts of chocolate was associated with significantly lower risk of being diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, a common and potentially life threatening type of irregular heartbeat.
"Australia's first death from XDR-TB - extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis, which is nearly incurable - has alarmed health officials and added new heat to a debate over how to treat immigrants with dangerous diseases," the New York Times reports.
Einstein Healthcare Network and Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) have entered into a binding Definitive Agreement, legally binding the ideas and commitments described in the Letter of Intent, which the two organizations signed in March.
