The age-standardized mortality rate for hemorrhagic stroke has decreased worldwide over the past two decades, but incidence, number of deaths, and lost disability-adjusted life-years continue to increase. While hemorrhagic stroke occurs half as frequently globally as ischemic stroke, it causes significantly more deaths and lost DALY.
A recent qualitative study of rehabilitation professionals caring for people with spatial neglect enabled researchers to identify interventions to improve rehabilitation outcomes.
Sleep has become a hot button topic in health care, at least when it comes to physicians. The fact that doctors-in-training don't get enough of it has resulted in regulations governing duty hours in resident training programs across the nation. In 2002, the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) reduced the number of hours that resident physicians can work to 80 hours per week.
Researchers at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center's Nanotechnology Center, along with collaborators at Cornell University and Hybrid Silica Technologies, have received approval for their first Investigational New Drug Application from the US Food and Drug Administration for an ultrasmall silica inorganic nanoparticle platform for targeted molecular imaging of cancer, which may be useful for cancer treatment in the future.
Macmillan skin cancer nurse specialists will be promoting sun awareness and the dangers of skin cancer during Sun Awareness Week which runs from 10 to 16 May.
