According to a study published today in Gastroenterology by researchers at Virginia Commonwealth University Massey Cancer Center and University of Florida Health, Black, Hispanic, Indigenous and Asian Americans remain conspicuously absent from pancreatic cancer clinical trials aimed at testing the most recent treatment advances for this deadly disease.
Tiny particles of albumin, a protein found in the blood, can be used to carry radioactive isotopes to the site of a cancerous tumour in the body and so avoid many of the side-effects of conventional radiotherapy.
Gabrielle's Angel Foundation for Cancer Research today announced grant recipients of its first-ever Collaborative Research grant program. The inaugural awards total $800,000 for two groundbreaking research initiatives that span the medical capitals of New York, Boston and Chicago.
The drought in the Horn of Africa "emphasizes the gap between our rapidly increasing ability to predict disasters, thanks largely to advances in science and technology, and our capacity to generate the political will to carry out effective mitigation strategies," according to a SciDev.Net opinion piece by editor David Dickson.
