Three U.S. senators seeking to speed up review times for medical devices have proposed two new bills for advisers to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The measure would reverse 2007 legislation that barred experts who had financial ties to a company or its competitor from serving on an advisory panel without a waiver. There is also a limit on the number of waivers that keeps decreasing.
As a psychiatrist I am interested in how stress may play a role in the pathology of adult mental disorders. You may know that most of the major mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia, mood-disorder, substance abuse or even anxiety disorder, become prominent in early adulthood.
WuXi PharmaTech, a leading pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device research and development outsourcing company with operations in China and the United States, announced today that its Suzhou non-clinical safety testing facility received full accreditation from the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC). As a result of an extensive on-site evaluation, AAALAC determined that WuXi PharmaTech's facility meets the highest standards of animal care and research practices.
Researchers at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, working with the National Institutes of Health, will conduct a clinical trial beginning this month to determine if monthly injections of anti-viral drugs are more effective at suppressing the HIV virus than daily pills in a population for whom daily adherence has been a challenge.
Loyola University of Chicago Stritch School of Medicine students will present 10 studies at the upcoming American Physician Scientists Association meeting April 27-29 in Chicago.
