Public health research data "must be made more widely available in the scientific community if researchers are to unlock its full potential and make progress in public health, the world's top health funding agencies said Monday," Reuters reports. "In a joint statement, 17 major health research funders from around the world pledged to work together to support 'timely and responsible' sharing of data gathered during studies on health," the news service notes (Kelland, 1/10).
Thomas R. Terrell, MD presented "Prospective Cohort Study of the Association of Genetic Polymorphisms and Concussion Risk and Postconcussion Neurocognitive Deficits in College Athletes" at the 21st American Medical Society for Sports Medicine Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Ga. on April 23, 2012.
Next week, advisers to the Food and Drug Administration will recommend whether the agency should approve the first new prescription diet pill in 13 years. The F.D.A. rejected the drug under review, Qnexa, in 2010, amid safety concerns, and the drug's manufacturer is now presenting additional data to argue its case.
The New Jersey Institute for Successful Aging (NJISA) at the UMDNJ-School of Osteopathic Medicine, one of the country's leading providers of geriatric care, research and education, is making experts available who can discuss the science, impact and current state of Alzheimer's disease in America.
