An excellent study among experimental mice has reported very dramatic differences between the effects of alcohol administered in moderation on a daily basis and the same total weekly amount of alcohol administered on only two days of the week: (replicating binge drinking).
Agfa HealthCare announced today that it has been awarded a new three-year group purchasing contract with Premier, Inc., a leading healthcare improvement company, to provide its entire product line of digital radiography (DR) solutions to the alliance's approximately 3,600 member hospitals and 120,000 other alternate healthcare sites in the United States.
A collaborative team of researchers led by Alex A. Adjei, MD, PhD, FACP, of Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) will share results from the first clinical study of the anticancer effects of the novel agent entolimod at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) 51st Annual Meeting in Chicago.
Controlling blood pressure is not only a medical challenge, but a social one as well. Because patients are required to strictly adhere to a treatment plan that may include medication, dietary restrictions and regular doctor visits, the ideas of wellness and health are also powerful parts of the social reinforcement needed for behavioral change.
Before Alzheimer's patients experience memory loss, the brain's neurons have already suffered harm for years. A new study in mouse models by researchers at Columbia University Medical Center has found that the brain's mitochondria, the powerhouses of the cell, are one of the earliest casualties of the disease. The study, which appeared in the online Early Edition of PNAS, also found that impaired mitochondria then injure the neurons' synapses, which are necessary for normal brain function.
