Results from a recent study eliminates the common misconception that vegetarian diets are deficient in important nutrients that most people get from animal foods, according to an article in the July issue of Food Nutrition & Science.
Noting that speech-language pathologists (SLPs) are often the first group of professionals to recognize that a child has autism and are central to providing treatment, the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) sent letters this month to Presidential candidates Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama that advise taking an evidence-based approach to the vaccine controversy surrounding what causes autism and to policy development related to care.
The Case Western Reserve University/University Hospitals Case Medical Center Center for AIDS Research announced today it has received a five-year renewal grant from the National Institutes of Health for $9 million. The CFAR provides clinical and technological support to researchers working on HIV-related projects at Case Western Reserve, University Hospital Case Medical Center, MetroHealth Medical Center, Cleveland Clinic, and several international sites.
Novo Nordisk announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved NovoSeven® RT (Coagulation Factor VIIa [Recombinant] Room Temperature Stable) in an 8 mg vial size, making the hemophilia A or B with inhibitors treatment available in 1, 2, 5 and 8 mg vials. The 8 mg vial allows a rapid initiation and administration of this medication for those patients who need a larger dose. In addition, FDA has also approved the extension of shelf life for all vial sizes from 24 months to 36 months at room temperature (at or below 77 degrees Fahrenheit).
Researchers from the Schepens Eye Research Institute of Massachusetts Eye and Ear have identified new underlying mechanisms of proptosis, or bulging of the eyes, in patients with acute thyroid eye disease.
