Cervical cancer is the fourth most frequently occurring cancer in women. Human papillomavirus (HPV) is present in 99 percent of cervical cancers and is considered to be their cause. While most HPV infections will clear naturally within a few years, there has been no treatment available to hasten or improve the chance of natural eradication.
The use of meshed split skin autographs (SSGs) is a standard treatment for large, deep burns. However, serious scarring is often a result. In an effort to improve wound healing and reduce scarring, a team of researchers in The Netherlands tested a treatment technique on patients with serious, deep burns that employed SSGs along with autologous cultured proliferating epidermal cells (ECs) compared to SSGs alone.
Supporters of the National Institutes of Health argue that an anticipated $1.6 billion cut would undermine research in cancer, heart and AIDS, while adding to economic and unemployment woes.
Malaria is a life-threatening condition that exposes approximately half of the world's population to the risk of developing a severe and often lethal form of disease. Genentech, a member of the Roche Group, today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has accepted the company's Biologics License Application for obinutuzumab (GA101) and granted Priority Review for GA101 in the treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia, one of the most common forms of blood cancer, based on final Stage 1 data from the pivotal CLL11 trial.
