In the first randomized trial of art therapy for asthma, National Jewish Health researchers found that children with persistent asthma enjoyed decreased anxiety and increased quality of life after seven weekly art-therapy sessions.
Novocure announced today that the first patients have enrolled in the EF-21 Study, a prospective randomized clinical study of NovoTTF Therapy for patients with brain metastases from non-small cell lung carcinoma cancer. NovoTTF Therapy is an anti-mitotic treatment delivered continuously throughout the day by the NovoTTF-100A System.
The lab of Rice University synthetic organic chemist K.C. Nicolaou has reported the streamlined total synthesis of delta12-prostaglandin J3, a molecule previously claimed to kill leukemic cancer cells.
When hospital patients have to be readmitted soon after discharge, hospitals look bad. And in addition to reflecting poorly on a hospital's quality of care, a high readmission rate also can result in reduced Medicare reimbursements, under provisions now taking effect under the 2010 health care law.
The survey also revealed a plethora of misconceptions when it comes to antibiotics with only half of respondents knowing that bacteria are becoming resistant to antibiotics. Only 40% knew antibiotics should not be taken for viruses and many (40%) did not know that taking antibiotics when they're not needed contributes to antibiotic resistance. More than half did not know resistance increases when you don't complete the course as directed and in general, the youth audience had less knowledge.
