The novel avian H7N9 influenza virus has caused more than 130 human infections with 43 deaths in China. New research, conducted under the supervision of Kansas State University's Juergen Richt, is showing promise in helping to fight this deadly virus.
Thoratec Corporation, a world leader in device-based mechanical circulatory support therapies to save, support and restore failing hearts, said today that revenues for the first quarter of 2012 were $126.8 million, an increase of 27% versus revenues of $99.5 million in the same period a year ago.
Compared to patients receiving care from primary care physicians, asthma patients who are under the care of an allergist report fewer asthma control problems and less sever asthma symptoms, according to new research in the December 2005 Journal of Allergy & Clinical Immunology (JACI).
Administering fluids to patients is carried out through intravenous (IV) catheters, inserting a needle in a vein in a common medical procedure. However, the motor coordination required to insert an IV catheter is very demanding, particularly in children and infants. This often causes pain, distress and frustration.
Surprisingly, even with decades of cryopreservation research, little progress has been made in the way frozen biospecimens are thawed. It's still very common for researchers and clinicians to thaw cells and other frozen biological samples in a variety of manual ways ...
