Johns Hopkins researchers have developed a sugar-based molecular microcapsule that eliminates the toxicity of an anticancer agent developed a decade ago at Johns Hopkins, called 3-bromopyruvate, or 3BrPA, in studies of mice with implants of human pancreatic cancer tissue. The encapsulated drug packed a potent anticancer punch, stopping the progression of tumors in the mice, but without the usual toxic effects.
Patients with acute heart failure often have high levels of the metabolite trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) - of which red meat is a major dietary source - according to researchers from the University of Leicester.
"Contrary to the perception that male counselors are less likely to reveal infidelity, because men in our society have more liberal attitudes about affairs and are more likely to have had them, that did not turn out to be the case in our study," said Rosaria Carlone Upchurch, who did the research for her doctoral dissertation in counselor education.
The Mount Sinai Health System announced the launch of the DigniCap scalp cooling system, which was recently cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to reduce the likelihood of chemotherapy-induced hair loss in women with breast cancer, in three of its cancer center locations.
The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) announced today several initiatives aimed at addressing the rise of opioid abuse and related deaths in the United States, while safeguarding legitimate access to medications for patients with pain.
