Use of practitioner-led complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), such as acupuncture, massage, osteopathy and chiropractic treatment, rose from 12 per cent of the population in 2005 to 16 per cent of the population in 2015, according to a survey led by researchers at the University of Bristol's Centre for Academic Primary Care.
Since its founding in 2007, the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (SMISS) has become the pre-eminent professional society for MIS surgeons. On March 1, 2010, the organization's educational activities expanded dramatically with the launch of SMISS Highlights, an online series of CME-accredited education modules that are free of charge for spine surgeons.
An international team of investigators at Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute (Sanford-Burnham, formerly Burnham Institute for Medical Research), Nijmegen Centre for Molecular Life Sciences and other organizations have discovered that TKS4, a protein implicated in cancer metastasis, also plays a significant role in Frank-Ter Haar syndrome (FTHS), a rare fatal disorder.
A report from the Trust for America's Health, says the United States only has 965,256 staffed hospital beds, and in the event of a pandemic, half a million Americans could die and more than 2 million could end up in the hospital with serious complications.
It's already well known that a diet may have a life-extending effect. Researchers from Leibniz Institute on Aging - Fritz Lipmann Institute in Jena, Germany, now showed that besides improving the functionality of stem cells in mice, a caloric restriction also leads to a fatale weakening of their immune system - counteracting the life-lengthening effect of a diet.
