Continua Health Alliance, an international organization of leading health care and technology companies, the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), responsible for standardization of ICT within Europe, and Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise Europe (IHE-Europe) today announced receipt of funding from the European Commission (EC) for a 12-month project called Smart Personal Health.
Many medications are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on the brink of congressionally mandated deadlines, and those drugs are more likely to face later regulatory intervention than those approved with greater deliberation, researchers at Harvard University have found.
Amblyopia, commonly known as "lazy-eye," has been classically treated by patching the strong eye to force the weaker eye to be used. However, the concept of binocular dysfunction, in which the brain suppresses the image from the weaker eye in favor of the stronger eye, has motivated new approaches to amblyopia treatment.
Vical Incorporated announced today that a prime-boost malaria vaccine regimen provided sterile protection, with no disease symptoms and no detectable malaria parasites, in 4 of 15 vaccinated volunteers a full 28 days after challenge with multiple infected-mosquito bites.
