Researchers at the University of Maryland School of Medicine have identified how certain gene mutations cause amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
Clear One Health Plans, Inc. today announced the launch of the first Natural Health Plan that focuses on holistic health insurance available in the state of Oregon. The new Natural Health Plan is available throughout the state of Oregon beginning February 1, 2010 to Oregon residents and is specifically designed with an emphasis on alternative medicine such as naturopathic medicine, chiropractic, acupuncture, massage therapy, and nutraceuticals (vitamins and minerals).
Scientists at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign have designed a potential roadmap to use a biosynthetic pathway taken from a common microorganism to produce compounds that could serve as precursors to explosives or components in everyday devices such as liquid crystal displays or anti-cancer agents.
"House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stepped up her push for a publicly run health plan that has divided congressional Democrats, saying it could 'save enormous amounts of money,'" The Wall Street Journal reports. "Congressional aides said including a government-run plan for people under 65 in the health overhaul could save as much as $100 billion, if such a plan were to pay health-care providers the low rates used by Medicare, the federal health program for the elderly."
Stay-at-home orders and "lockdowns" related to the COVID-19 pandemic have had a major impact on the daily lives of people around the world and that includes the way that people sleep, two studies report June 10 in the journal Current Biology.
