Many people of African heritage are protected against malaria by inheriting a particular version of a gene, a large-scale study has shown.
Aeterna Zentaris Inc. today announced that an independent Data Safety Monitoring Board has recommended discontinuing the ongoing Phase 3 study comparing the efficacy and safety of perifosine to placebo when combined with bortezomib (Velcade) and dexamethasone in patients with relapsed or relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma.
A new study by the University of Minnesota researchers and published on the preprint server medRxiv in August 2020 shows that wind instruments, in particular, are a source of significant aerosol production and, therefore, of viral transmission.
Many scientists aspire to take control over the stem cell differentiation process, so that we can grow organs and implants perfectly matched to each patient in the future. Now research in the Journal of Tissue Engineering, published by SAGE-Hindawi, explains how engineering the topography on which stem cells grow, and the mechanical forces working on them, can be as powerful an agent for change as their chemical environment.
