Philadelphia Insurance Companies (PHLY) will kick-off basketball season by facing the city of Philadelphia's "Big 5" college basketball coaches on the court at the University of Pennsylvania's Palestra Saturday, October 10, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. Team PHLY will tip-off against Coaches Fran Dunphy (Temple), Phil Martelli (Saint Joseph's), Bruiser Flint (Drexel), John Giannini (La Salle), Glen Miller (University of Pennsylvania) and Jay Wright (Villanova) to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
Researchers at the New York University Tandon School of Engineering and the digital intelligence tech company Griffeye have begun building a sophisticated suite of tools to be provided pro bono to law enforcement officials seeking to identify children in child sexual exploitation material (sometimes referred to as child pornography) and rescuing victims.
A Korean research team from KAIST developed a computational framework, DeepDDI, that accurately predicts and generates 86 types of drug-drug and drug-food interactions as outputs of human-readable sentences, which allows in-depth understanding of the drug-drug and drug-food interactions.
Findings from Canadian Prostate Cancer Genome Network (CPC-GENE) researchers and their collaborators, published today in Cell, show that the aggressiveness of an individual prostate cancer can be accurately assessed by looking at how that tumor has evolved. This information can be used to determine what type and how much treatment should be given to each patient, or if any is needed at all.
In 2000, researchers at the UCLA Center for Sleep Research published findings showing that people suffering from narcolepsy, a disorder characterized by uncontrollable periods of deep sleep, had 90 percent fewer neurons containing the neuropeptide hypocretin in their brains than healthy people.
