Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited announced today that the companies have selected the combination treatment of pramlintide, an analog of the natural hormone amylin, and metreleptin, an analog of the natural hormone leptin, for advancement toward Phase 3 development. The decision to advance the program followed encouraging results from a 52-week blinded, placebo-controlled Phase 2 extension study. The pramlintide/metreleptin combination met the key target criteria of sustained and robust weight loss.
Starpharma Holdings Limited has announced that a full licence agreement has been signed with SSL International plc in relation to the VivaGel coated condom. SSL manufactures and sells Durex condoms, the market-leading condom brand worldwide.
A study published in the Journal of Headache and Pain, carried out by Dr. Thomas Kinfe of the University of Bonn, found that twice daily stimulation of the vagus nerve with the hand-held gammaCore nVNS device reduced the number of headache days per month from 14.7 to 8.9 (p<0.001) and the number of monthly migraine attacks from 7.3 to 4.5 (p<0.001).
