Every year at The Montreal Children's Hospital of the McGill University Health Centre, we look to members of the community to help make Christmas special for the young children who are not well enough to go home for the holidays. This year was no exception. In an effort to make sure we had enough toys and goodies for Christmas Day, we made an urgent appeal to the public last week and asked Montrealers to pick up extra dollies, stuffed animals, games and trucks so that we might be able to distribute toys to each and every child.
A new study by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) presents results on the first onset of substance use disorders (i.e., alcohol and drug abuse and dependence) and major mood and anxiety disorders, based on Wave 2 of the National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions (NESARC).
Republicans in both the House and the Senate are considering big cuts to Medicaid. But those cuts endanger addiction treatment, which many people receive through the government health insurance program.
At a time when the national conversation is focused on narrowing the gap of racial equity, two of Cleveland's anchor institutions have been awarded grant funding that will help them turn words into action.
IBM today announced a new Research collaboratory, located in Taipei, Taiwan. The collaboratory will focus on using technologies - including cloud computing, analytics and mobile devices - to advance wellness-centric healthcare that manages diseases more efficiently and effectively to keep people healthier.
