Isis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced the initiation of a Phase 1 study of ISIS-APOCIIIRx, an antisense drug designed to lower triglycerides to treat a variety of diseases associated with elevated triglycerides. Hypertriglyceridemia, a condition characterized by elevated levels of triglycerides, is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease and is a component of numerous cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, including metabolic syndrome.
It's been known for some time that the immune system can produce antibodies capable of "neutralizing" HIV, and stopping the AIDS-causing virus dead in its tracks.
The immune response to the bacterium that causes tuberculosis (TB) varies between patients of different ethnic origin, raising important implications for the development of tests to diagnose and monitor treatment for the disease, according to new research published today in the journal PLOS Pathogens.
