Scientists have found a way to target elusive cells that suppress immune response, depleting them with peptides that spare other important cells and shrink tumors in preclinical experiments, according to a paper published online by Nature Medicine.
In a rather worrying revelation it appears that fifty percent of the medicines currently used to treat children have only been tested on adults.
Diagnosing and treating obstructive sleep apnea may soon become much less expensive and arduous, thanks to new research showing that a simplified program using experienced nurses, home ambulatory diagnosis and auto-titrating continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machines to titrate CPAP pressures is not inferior to the traditional model which relies on specialist physicians and sleep studies.
The new Tandem fund of $300 million announced last week presents a much-needed financing option for Canada's biotechnology industry. The Fund received investments from the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC), and Export Development Canada (EDC), contributing $80 and $75 million respectively to the Fund.
A combination of peptides and antibiotics could be key to eliminating the parasite causing leishmaniasis and avoiding the toxicity to people and animals caused by current drugs.
