AS the ripples from the ongoing crisis in the eurozone continue to spread, cancer researchers in the countries worst affected warned today that their work would have stalled without vital grants from a Scottish charity.
People with bleeding brain aneurysms have the best chance of survival and full recovery if they receive aggressive emergency treatment from a specialized team at a hospital that treats a large number of patients like them every year, according to new guidelines just published by the American Stroke Association.
Working with researchers from the University of Michigan and Indiana University, Van Andel Research Institute investigators have developed a method that could be used to predict whether pancreatic cysts are benign or are precursors to invasive cancer.
Approximately 2 million people, including 400,000 children, in the United States are being treated for epilepsy, and one-third continue to have seizures despite treatment. In order to address an important caregiver need, RTI International has been developing a prototype mobile seizure alert system to help epilepsy patients and their families cope with seizures.
A rare procedure occasionally performed during Jewish circumcisions that involves direct oral suction is a likely source of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) transmissions documented in infants between 1988 and 2012, a literature review conducted by Penn Medicine researchers and published online in the Journal of the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society found.
