When loud snoring is interrupted by frequent episodes of obstructed breathing, it is known as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). As many as 12 million people in the U.S. suffer from this condition, which can require surgical intervention when lifestyle changes and other treatment options fail.
A new study conducted by researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago and published in JAMA Network Open has found that 81% of antibiotics prescribed by dentists - who are among the top prescribers in the U.S., accounting for about 10% of all antibiotic prescriptions - to prevent infections prior to dental visits are unnecessary.
Until recently, many elderly patients with stage I non-small cell lung cancer were left untreated because treatment may not improve their quality of life. However, stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) has become one of the standards of treatment for these patients. The outpatient treatment given over a two-week period allows frail patients to undergo the treatment.
United Therapeutics Corporation announced today the completion of its FREEDOM-C(2) Phase 3 trial of treprostinil diethanolamine, an investigational sustained release oral formulation of treprostinil, a stable synthetic form of prostacyclin, in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension.
CERENOVUS, part of the Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices Companies, announced today that the first patients have been treated with the BRAVO Flow Diverter, following recent CE mark approval for the device to be used in the treatment of intracranial aneurysms.
