Biophysics professors at Western University, in London, Canada, have developed a CT (Computed Tomography) scanner small enough to sit on a desk. Jerry Battista, Chair of the Department of Medical Biophysics at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and Kevin Jordan of the London Regional Cancer Program at London Health Sciences Centre invented the DeskCAT- Multi-slice CT Scanner as a novel and interactive way to teach CT imaging techniques to a wide range of students.
Emmaus Medical, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company engaged in the discovery, development and commercialization of innovative and cost-effective treatments and therapies primarily for rare and orphan diseases, today announced it has completed all patient visits for its Phase 3 clinical trial for the treatment of sickle cell disease. Emmaus expects top-line data from the Phase 3 clinical trial to be available in the first quarter of 2014.
Anne-Mette R. Grønvold has through her doctoral research shown that resistance to antibiotics is on the increase in intestinal bacteria in animals as a direct result of antibiotic treatments. The antibiotics also alter the composition of bacteria in the intestines.
