A team of scientists from the United States has recently revealed how interactions between the SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein and the double-stranded RNA motifs impart distinct droplet properties that can support multiple viral functions. The study is currently available on the bioRxiv* preprint server.
Hospitals will be able to carefully track their use of blood products in patients, manage their inventory and compare blood use protocols against best practices through a new inventory management system being made available to the 75 independent blood centers that are members of America's Blood Centers.
The University of Twente carried out the first study worldwide that shows patients with COPD (lung disease caused by smoking) and other illnesses (heart disease, diabetes, anxiety and depression) have better outcomes if they follow a self-management program with a customized action plan. Anke Lenferink of UT recently obtained a doctoral degree on this subject.
