Scientists at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine have uncovered a novel pathway by which hormones elevated in inflammation, cancer and cell injury act on cells to stimulate their growth.
Researchers from the Institute of Neurosciences of the UB and from IDIBAPS together with a team from the University Pierre and Marie Curie and the Institute du Fer à Moulin, published a study in Nature Communications, which demonstrates that the regulation in Pyk2, a protein-tyrosine kinase, causes alterations of the synaptic plasticity involved in memory tasks, associated with the hippocampus in mouse models of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Huntington's.
By developing a novel decoding technology, a team of engineers and physicians at the University of Southern California and UC San Francisco have discovered how mood variations can be decoded from neural signals in the human brain-a process that has not been demonstrated to date.
The Advisory Board Company's Consulting and Management division announced on Tuesday that it has recognized three top-performing health systems with national awards for innovative initiatives that improved care quality and patient experience while lowering cost.
