Few health care providers in rural India know the correct treatments for childhood diarrhea and pneumonia - two leading killers of young children worldwide. But even when they do, they rarely prescribe them properly, according to a new Duke University study.
On World No Tobacco Day, the American Thoracic Society, alongside members of the Forum of International Respiratory Societies, calls for renewed efforts to strengthen the implementation of the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control in all countries, in order to work towards achieving the United Nations Global Goals for Sustainable Development to ensure a healthy life and promote well-being for all, at all ages.
Researchers have identified blood-based biomarkers and developed questionnaire-based apps that may help clinicians identify which of their female patients being treated for psychiatric disorders are at greatest risk of suicidal ideation or behavior.
Heart failure patients with iron deficiency can experience significant and sustainable improvements in functional capacity and quality of life as well as reduced risk of hospital admission for worsening heart failure by receiving just one to two intravenous doses of an iron supplement, according to the results of a study presented today at ESC Congress 2014.
