Repeated infusions of ketamine treatments for migraines or pain was not associated with increased risk for hepatotoxicity or psychomimetic adverse drug events (ADEs), according to research from Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, and the University of Virginia at Charlottesville.
Work done in part by researchers at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston has led to the discovery of two new genes that are implicated in ankylosing spondylitis (AS), an inflammatory and potentially disabling disease. In addition, the international research team pinpointed two areas along stretches of DNA that play an important role in regulating gene activity associated with the arthritic condition.
Guidelines for teenagers should stress the importance of vigorous physical activity and fitness to cut the risk of heart disease, new research suggests. Current NHS guidelines say people aged 5 to 18 should do at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity each day to improve their current and future health.
Men have a four times greater risk than women of developing abdominal aortic aneurysms, estimated to be the cause of death in 4 percent of people over the age of 65, but the mechanism for this higher incidence has remained unknown.
