Researchers have uncovered an unexpected role for estrogen receptors in the brain in keeping inflammation under control. The findings reported in the May 13 issue of the Cell Press journal Cell may have important implications for the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS) and many other neurodegenerative diseases.
Though it's the more common form of the disease, sporadic Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), which affects roughly 90 percent of those living with the fatal neurodegenerative illness, has been the one less studied, simply because, unlike familial ALS, no genes have turned up.
Alexza Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq: ALXA) announced that during a special meeting of stockholders held today, its stockholders approved the proposal to issue shares of the Company's common stock and warrants to purchase shares of the Company's common stock to Symphony Capital Partners, LP and their co-investors. Subsequent to this vote, Alexza completed its acquisition of Symphony Allegro, and as a result, Alexza reacquired all rights to AZ-004, AZ-104 and AZ-002.
