Researchers compare lipid-lowering efficacy for two nonstatin therapies in statin-intolerant patients

Steven E. Nissen, M.D., of the Cleveland Clinic, and colleagues identified patients with muscle-related adverse effects from statins and compared lipid-lowering efficacy for two nonstatin therapies, ezetimibe and evolocumab. The study was published online by JAMA, and is being released to coincide with its presentation at the American College of Cardiology's 65th Annual Scientific Session & Expo.

All funding for Miami-Dade community-based organizations cut by Mayor Alvarez

Miami-Dade County Mayor Alvarez has eliminated all funding for community-based organizations (CBOs) for FY 2009-10, effective October 1, 2009. The proposed would mean the total elimination of over $31 million in grants to community-based organizations in Miami-Dade County. A significant portion of the CBO cuts would apply to Institute for Child & Family Health (ICFH) the largest provider of children's services in the County.

A new national Career Development Consortium for Excellence in Glycosciences

Over the next five years, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health, will award approximately $20 million to four academic centers to launch a new national Career Development Consortium for Excellence in Glycosciences.
