Inter Press Service examines how a program developed by the International Centre for Diarrheal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) is working to promote the treatment of "children with severe acute malnutrition ... at home with ready-to-use therapeutic foods (RUTF) made from locally available ingredients."
According to Millennium Research Group (MRG), the global authority on medical technology market intelligence, despite the rising popularity of drug-eluting stents (DES) across Latin America, bare-metal stents (BMS) will continue to represent a significant portion of the overall coronary stent market through 2014. This trend is especially evident in Brazil, where the public healthcare system does not provide any reimbursement for DES procedures.
In the first randomized, double-blinded trial of an online behavioral intervention for high blood pressure, participants in web-based lifestyle counseling reduced their systolic blood pressure (the higher number in a blood-pressure reading) by 10 mmHg, compared with a 6 mmHg reduction for those taking part in a web-based control intervention, a statistically significant difference.
The Coalition for Pulmonary Fibrosis, the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, and the American Thoracic Society-the world's leading professional organization for pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine-today announced that the CPF and the PFF will again partner with the ATS to fund pulmonary fibrosis research.
