Ambit Biosciences, a biopharmaceutical company focused on discovery and development of drugs targeting unmet needs in oncology, autoimmune and inflammatory disease, today announced the initiation of the Phase 2 cohort of the MD Anderson Cancer Center-sponsored Phase 1/2 study of quizartinib in combination with either 5-azacitidine or low dose cytarabine for previously untreated FLT3-ITD positive acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients age 60 or older, or FLT3-ITD positive AML patients 18 years of age or older in first relapse.
In a review published this week a warning has been issued against the apparent reliance by most countries on the drug Tamiflu to combat a bird flu pandemic.
Since 1871, when Charles Darwin wrote The Descent of Man, it has been widely accepted that "Variability is the necessary basis for the action of selection." Variability is associated with the ability to adapt, which is clearly beneficial at a species level. But there is increasing evidence that genetic variability may also give rise to advantages at the level of the individual.
They're actors, but they don't perform on stage or in front of cameras. And they don't do drama or comedy. Rather, they specialize in injuries and illnesses.
