New research at the University of Leicester to contribute to more effective drug design. A cutting-edge research project at the University of Leicester is aiming to improve the treatment of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
Merck & Co. announced this Monday that they would file for U.S. marketing approval of their experimental insomnia drug suvorexant in 2012.
Dr. Philippe De Wals of Universit' Laval's Department of Social and Preventive Medicine today publishes a study clearly indicating that the addition of folic acid to flours has led to a 46% drop in the incidence of congenital neural tube deformation (mainly anencephaly and spina bifida) in Canada. Such deformations either result in the child's death or in major health problems, including physical and learning disabilities.
A new study of mutations in cancer genomes shows how researchers can begin to distinguish the 'driver' mutations that push cells towards cancer from the 'passenger' mutations that are a by-product of cancer cell development. The study also shows that at least one in nine genes can be removed without killing human cells.
