Researchers at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Cancer Center have identified a subgroup of hard-to-treat breast cancers that may be sensitive to the drug cisplatin, rarely used in the treatment of breast tumors.
Women's health problems, depression and child abuse represented a major health crisis in Australia, a seminar focusing on women and mental health over the weekend was told.
Today, AdMeTech Foundation in cooperation with Nick Kosovich of Dancing with the Stars, Arthur Murray International (AMI), Philips Healthcare, Mary Murphy of Fox TV Hit So You Think You Can Dance and other key leaders of the dancing community have launched Dance for the Cure of Prostate Cancer as a national awareness and fundraising campaign to end the prostate cancer crisis.
Fatigue and poor health, anxiety and depression may have a major impact on patients with functional dysphonia (FD), leading to time off work, reduced activity, and social withdrawal, all of which could further perpetuate and/or cause anxiety, low mood, fatigue and reduced voice use, according to new research published in the June 2011 issue of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery.
Heart valves calcify over time, and Rice University scientists are beginning to understand why. The Rice lab of bioengineer Jane Grande-Allen found through studies of pigs' heart valves that age plays a critical role in the valves' progressive hardening, and the problem may be due to the infiltration of a protein known as von Willebrand factor.
