University of Texas at El Paso researchers have patented a low-cost device that can easily monitor the health of HIV patients living in low-resource settings.
Next month, in the Norwegian town of Rena, 12,000 elite cross-country skiers will line up for this year's Birkebeiner ski marathon, an annual endurance race which will take them through 54 kilometres of snow-covered countryside to the winter sports resort of Lillehammer. The race has been run almost every year since 1932, and in 1976 almost 150 participants were invited to take part in a long-term study designed to discover the extent of latent heart disease in these elite cross-country skiers.
Patients with obesity are at higher risk of developing heart failure. And yet, many obese patients face obstacles to getting heart transplants, as recovery is considered to be more challenging and risky in individuals with high body mass.
Max Planck researchers have proven something scientifically for the first time that laypeople have always known: the mere sight of delicious food stimulates the appetite. A study on healthy young men has documented that the amount of the neurosecretory protein hormone ghrelin in the blood increases as a result of visual stimulation through images of food.
Medifocus, Inc. is pleased to announce that it has recently received notice of allowances for two additional international patents to expand its extensive Intellectual Properties (IP) portfolio in addition to the patents Medifocus has exclusively licensed from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
